Venus & Mars conjunction in Leo 13th July 2021

Both standing equally in the firmament of True Knowing and True Power!

Typically, a Venus-Mars conjunction is an auspicious event, something to celebrate, heralding attraction, romance, love, passion and sexuality. And in the sign of Leo! We could expect to see grand displays of ‘wooing’.

NB: The fire signs tend to be a lot more invested in the initial stages of romance, ‘the games and fore-plays’, ‘the teasing and temptations’, rather than the tawdry task of following through on their bold and audacious flirts.

Why then? Well, Leo loves attention!

Personally, I’ve found that it’s my Leo friends, especially girl friends that love polyamory the most, especially whilst being in a steady, stable partnership- Leo is a fixed sign after all. The rest of us are probably wondering why? Why so many relationships and who has the time for all these affairs anyway? Well, the answer of course, is that having ‘multiple lovers’ feeds the Leo’s need for attention, here, here and here. And so it goes. Though interestingly, this doesn’t necessarily give way to a busy sex life because really that’s not what the Leo necessarily craves the most.

Leo wants to play like a kitten and toy with his or her or their prospective mate or mates.

Rather than ‘bank their fires’, many a fire sign likes to burn bright until burnt out, whereupon the heat of the initial encounter may just fizzle out and go nowhere. Though the earthy/fire types are better at keeping things simmering and smouldering beyond initial impressions and ‘hook-ups’.

And please don’t waste any of the other fixed signs: Taurus, Scorpio or Aquarius’ time with showy displays of charisma that go nowhere! As this Scorpio likes to say, ‘charm can be a wonderful thing, when backed up by substance!’.

Oh, and the love dramas! Positive or negative dramas, no problem, it’s all attention!

“Do you love ‘me’?”

“Am I special?”

“Tell me again how hot and sexy I am”

“Tell me I’m the greatest”

“Wanna play show and tell?”

~

“You don’t really love ‘me’”

“If you really loved me, you’d….”

“You don’t pay enough attention to me”

“Well, if you don’t love me then I’ll find someone who will” (Slam)

The games can go awry and quite often toxic, in the direction of self-trashing hook-ups, risky behaviour, alcohol and drug abuse, sex-holism, self-harming, compensatory ego inflation and overt displays of grandiose and over-bearing narcissistic or borderline personality characteristics.

And so it goes. I know this sounds all very immature and well, this is Venus and Mars we are talking about here. And for the purposes of this tale, Venus and Mars are both youthful, either young in age or young at heart. As Leo rules royalty, we would imagine Venus in Leo to be a princess and Mars in Leo to be a prince. And their elder counter-parts, the Moon (Queen) and the Sun (King).

As with every star sign, there is a complex involved that usually expresses through some kind of neurosis. And for Leo, it’s all about ‘love’ and a whole lotta, ‘nobody loves me’. Which is always so sad to witness in Leo (Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars) since they usually are such wonderful characters. But hey, each sign has their thing to meet and evolve.

Early on in life, Leo is hamstrung by this suffering, that can only be temporarily alleviated by assuring the attention (mistaken for the love they truly seek) from others. Which is not their fault, as this is the world we are bought up in. To believe that we will ‘find love’ in another and then be happy, ‘happily ever after’.

But Leo is the Sun! And the Sun does not depend on any other planet to shine it’s Light.

The Sun, the ruler of Leo, is self-illuminating!

And given the Suns incredible power of light, heat, power and magnetism, it acts as an attractor. And so it is, all the other planets in the solar system want to spin in its orbit.

So, it’s a beautiful day when Leo finally realises that the true source of love that they have been seeking, was within all along. And that, just as happiness is an inside job, so is Love. So is Light.

Now, Leo can simply shine all that radiant joy, talent, vision in to the world without needing attention! They can be self-fulfilled through creative self-expression and be masterful emanators/attractors because that’s what they do and that’s what they love. And with it, attract all that they desire.

Now, what’s so interesting at this time July 2021, in regards to the Venus-Mars conjunction, is that both Venus and Mars have been passing through the same ‘developmental’ gates.

Back in June, both Venus and Mars, when in the tropical sign of Cancer, found themselves in an opposition to powerhouse Pluto. Mars went first (of course), though for him, the opposition was heightened as it culminated throughout the eclipse window. Then after the eclipse, when things weren’t so intense, Venus travelled in opposition to Pluto.

There’s much that could be said here of how such oppositions can play out but for the sake of this article, I want to focus on one aspect alone and that is the theme of POWER.

And for the young duo, possibly even couple,

“WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO, COME INTO ONE’S POWER?”

Similarly, Mars was the first to pass through the opposition to Master Teacher Saturn, which made a T-square to (Circuit Breaker) Uranus. As well, Mars and Saturn were part of a ‘Grand Kite’, involving a ‘Grand Fire Trine’ with Chiron Rx in Aries (The Wounded Warrior/ Healer/ Teacher/Shaman) and the South Node in Sagittarius (Collective reckoning on the ‘Path to Truth’). And then Venus made her way through the same, ‘birthed by fire’, planetary patterning.

So, what’s been going on here? Well, a lot but for the sake of this article I want to focus on the opposition to Saturn as it is the power axis running through the middle of the Kite and forming the base of the matter of the T-square. And with that, focus on just one theme of Saturn amongst many and that is AUTHORITY.

In knowing that Chiron Rx- the wounded healer is part of this, we know that this is a healing journey and with the South Node in Sag, we know that this is part of our collective karma, that everyone comes to terms with the issue of Authority.

For certainly no one is any position to show up as a teacher, healer, shamanic practitioner, priest/ess, hold any office or be in a position of higher rank, power and authority, until they have met that dimension within themselves, that of their own ‘inner authority’.

This is quite the topic but to put it simply in archetypal astrological terms. In traditional ways, our ‘instinct’ of inner authority should have been awakened by our encounter with the Father (Sun/Saturn). Likewise, our instinct to ‘self-nurturance’, met by the Mother (Moon). But of course, how that played out for most people will vary as many of us grew up without fathers, or without fathers that were healthy examples of standing in their authority. Many would have been traumatised by toxic demonstrations of authority and may have sought to emulate that or reject it and rebel instead. NB: Whilst we are in ‘rebel mode’ we are holding ourselves out from standing in our authority and power! So, it’s really important in adult land, whether we are 25 or 75 or anywhere in between, that we identify this essential (Saturnian mandate) aspect of our humanity and contemplate our ‘inner authority’.

Who is the author of my life?

Who’s in charge?

Where does responsibility lie for my actions?

Where is the ‘locus of control’?

Where in my life did I suffer under the reign of another’s authority and where did I stand in relation to my inner authority at that time?

Who are the authority figures I admire and why?

What are the characteristics of them, that I would ideally cultivate within myself?

  • Just a note to the young Leo. Standing in one’s authority is not about making brash and grandiose statements and dramatic entrances and exits.
  • And a note to anyone that might have fallen down the conspirituality rabbit hole, not to confuse ‘authority’ with ‘authoritarianism’.

To really understand standing in one’s authority is to really evolve ourselves in ‘The Way of Saturn’, starting by being able to take full responsibility for our lives, including all thoughts, words and actions. To know our limits. To hold to firm boundaries. To act from wisdom. To hold the ground (gravitas). To be patient, strong and preserving. And always honest and kind.

Hey no, I didn’t forget about Pluto and the theme of Power! Because that’s what’s going on here for Mz Venus and Mr Mars. They have both come face to face with ‘disempowerment’, so much so that the quest has begun, whether they are aware of it or not, ‘to step into their power’. So what does that mean?

When you’re in your power, you are aligned with Source. You are Source. No longer operating from the ‘little me’ or ‘separate self’. The one that feels so isolated, alone, incomplete, insecure and fearful.

The one that is motivated to act to fill in the gap or gaping whole of not residing at the centre of one’s being- the Void.

I’ve made mention many times in my videos that most folk’s life’s are an epic exercise in ‘avoiding the void’

A-VOID-ANCE!

And if there’s one thing Saturn cannot tolerate, it’s ‘avoidance’!

Nobody wants to go through the ‘carnival of horrors’ that awaits if they return home to their long-abandoned house, aka ‘their true self’.  Many folks, out of abject insecurity and ignore-ance, go chasing after fake power in the form of money, power-over, sex-cred, prestige, status etc..

I started this article with ‘typically…’ and yes, this is not a ‘typical’ Venus and Mars conjunction. This is a calling for all of us, no matter our age, gender or relationship status to examine where we stand in terms of our inner power and authority and how we might want to cultivate more of this in our lives.  And as I mentioned in the New Moon in Cancer video, this may change our views of the associations and relationships we are keeping. We could even frame this up in ways that honour Saturn and Pluto, such as:

Is this relationship mutually respectful, honest and kind?

Do I feel safe and confident to express my limits and boundaries?

Am I aware of who holds the power in this instance and why?

Am I aware of who holds the rank in this situation and why?

Is that due?

Can I be decisive and firm here?

Will my decision be truly heard, respected and honoured?

Who has the power in this situation? Am I OK with That?

Is the ground set to communicate openly and honestly about issues of power and rank?

Can I mature in this relationship emotionally, intellectually and spiritually?

Is this healthy eroticism, play and sex, ie: Does this affirm life?

Is this playful or is it fearful (fawning?)

Do I feel secure in this connection?

Is this relationship grounded in 3D reality?

Am I using this relationship to A-VOID?

And so it goes, many questions could arise in the fire. As well, questions pertaining to standing in one’s power and authority could arise in relation to career, work, home, family, friends, colleagues, peers and so on.

Ultimately Saturn in Aquarius wants a more mature society, one that can handle the complex issues of our times in ways that allow us not to just progress scientifically and technologically but also and especially in terms of our humanity. For how we are as humans and how we relate to one another will be the driver of any so called, ‘civilised and progressive’ society.

Who knows, maybe at this Venus/Mars Leo ‘love-in’, folks may just want to slow down and get to know each other in ways delicious and respectful and be wise with the fire and find ways to keep it burning with logs of Truth, Compassion, Kindness, Respect and Self-Honouring, each within their Power! WoW! This should get the juices flowing for a more mature, creative, playful, and awakened society.

Long live Eros!

Of course, there’s always so much to say about such a big topic, but for now I will leave you with a quote from Osho,

“Immature people falling in love destroy each other’s freedom, create a bondage, make a prison. Mature persons in love help each other to be free; they help each other to destroy all sorts of bondages. And when love flows with freedom there is beauty. When love flows with dependence there is ugliness.

A mature person does not fall in love, he or she rises in love. Only immature people fall; they stumble and fall down in love. Somehow they were managing and standing. Now they cannot manage and they cannot stand. They were always ready to fall on the ground and to creep. They don’t have the backbone, the spine; they don’t have the integrity to stand alone.

A mature person has the integrity to stand alone. And when a mature person gives love, he or she gives without any strings attached to it. When two mature persons are in love, one of the great paradoxes of life happens, one of the most beautiful phenomena: they are together and yet tremendously alone. They are together so much that they are almost one. Two mature persons in love help each other to become more free. There is no politics involved, no diplomacy, no effort to dominate. Only freedom and love.”  (Osho)
